RECHARGE!

RECHARGE! Definitely needed…and what better way to get recharged than with gospel music?! Jerron Liddell and the St. Luke Baptist church organized the WORSHIP RECHARGE CONCERT featuring some of the hottest gospel artists in Arkansas and surrounding areas. I know what you’re thinking, another concert??? But, it’s never just another concert when it’s Gospel Music! Gospel music is a form of euphoric, rhythmic, spiritual music rooted in the call and response church singing of the South. Rising out of the fields, slaves would sing to encourage and send secret messages of coming events. Gospel music was born from these songs and has evolved to a greatness that is experienced all over the world. It’s designed to invite the presence of the Holy Spirit with lyrics centered on the name of Jesus and speaking of God’s greatness and sovereignty.
The “Worship Recharge Concert” provided all that and more. Praise and Worship began with Pastor Kourtney Smith declaring how beautiful and worthy is the name of Jesus Christ. This was followed by a rousing arrangement of the Yolanda Adams’ classic, “Open Up My Heart,” performed by Steven “Spud” Howard. He then took us back to our roots with, “Have a Little Talk With Jesus.
We went way back with Brandon Morgan and Fresh Voices giving us an energized medley of songs we all grew up on like, “I Just Can’t Stop Praising Him,” “All in His Hands,” and “Do Not Pass Me By.” Selections from local favorite quartet group Revived had the crowd picking ’em up and putting ’em down!
The 2nd half was just as soul-stirring with songs from The Voices of St. Luke that brought the audience to its feet! Patrick Bean and Bonafide Worship ministered their newly released single “Something is About to Happen,” and whew, the glory FELL! The fire was then followed with a sweet spirit of worship by Harold Wade singing “We Bless Your Holy Name” and his own worship standard, “Worthy to be Praised.” The concert was closed out by the high-energy sounds of Vincent Tharpe and Kenosis from Memphis, TN. From start to finish, this group was TURNED UP, singing crowd favorites like “Glory Up” and “Thank You Lord.”
Gospel music provides a way for people to maintain balance in their lives. Between daily stressors and being inundated with the disparaging news of COVID-19 and vaccinations, we need a way to balance ourselves and recharge when our energy is low. Gospel music helps to re-center us when we feel ourselves veering off course. So from the fields to the church house, gospel music will continue to be a force, a source of inspiration, and a way to RECHARGE!
