To Be Loved

To be loved,

To be loved,

Oh, what a feeling to be loved

...but who told you that love had to come from someone other than yourself? You mean self-love? That is exactly what I mean!

I know self-love has become one of those pop culture, buzz words that everyone is spouting. But honestly, if you haven’t grabbed hold of it and tried it out…whew...you don’t know what you’re missing!

Self-love is defined as: regard of ones’ own well-being and happiness; taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others. In other words, self-love is not settling for less than you deserve.

But Nisha…how do I know what I deserve when it comes to love? I’m so glad you asked!

We all deserve love simply because we exist. When we were created, we were created with awe and reverence! There was no goofing around. Love is pretty much stitched in the lining of our being! So in essence, we’re programmed to…“keep that same energy!”

Now…loving yourself can be difficult, but I’m a firm believer that if we are intentional about learning how and doing the work, self-love can be achieved. Here are some simple ways to start loving on YOU:

  • Nourish yourself. Focus on things that you need to grow and be healthy as a person. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

  • Write! It’s not as hard as you think. Start a journal beginning with the things you are grateful for. You’ll be surprised at the things that you have to say.

  • Table for 1 please! Take yourself out on a date. Spending time alone is empowering and fun! You have the freedom to do whatever you want and the attention you would be giving someone else is now showered on you!

  • Forgive yourself. Acknowledge your mistakes, actually feel your emotions, learn the lesson and give yourself permission to let it go.

  • Good vibes ONLY! Prescribe to positive thinking about yourself and your life and that my dear is self-love!

So indeed Jackie Wilson was right when he said…To be loved, to be love, Oh what a feeling to be loved!

Sincerely, NishaSpeaks
