Mom! Mom! Mom! Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! Mama! MA! ma! Mama! Ma! Ma! Ma! Ma! Mum! Mum! Mum! Mum! Mummy! Mummy! Momma! Momma! Momma!

We’ve all seen the hilarious Stewie from “Family Guy” meme – and I’m willing to bet 95% of all moms have experienced the Stewie meme in real life. Oh, the feels of motherhood! Lots of hugs, kisses, guidance, and scolding. All in hopes of releasing an aware, stable, considerate, and whole human into the world. What an enormous undertaking! I mean, could we really ask for more pressure?

But moms around the world get it done and most times in ways that seem effortless. It’s kind of our superpower. Yes, mothers have superhuman abilities! Need an example? Say less…

  • Have you ever been whispering to a friend around your mom and she gives you that look, like don’t even think about it. Then later recites every word you said? Superpower.
  • Have you seen a mom, cook dinner, help with homework, feed a baby and load the dishwasher all at the same time? Superpower.
  • What about when a child is about to take a tumble, mom comes from across the park and catches them before they fall. Superpower.
  • Ever lost something? Ask mom, she knows where EVERYTHING is. Superpower.
  • The best and most coveted mom superpower is lie detection. A mom can sniff out a lie before the words roll off your tongue. That’s a superpower. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Let us not be naïve and think that being so much to our offspring is not sometimes taxing. I can speak from experience that when the day is done, and I retire to my room the “M” on my chest is a bit tattered and worn. I reflect on the day and think of how I could have done some things better, handled situations more calmly and that I should’ve bought that chuck roast that was on sale for Sunday’s dinner. I can feel completely depleted, but at the thought of something silly that my kids said or an out-of-the-blue hug from them, the tears fade and my heart smiles. Some days it’s sunshine and other days it’s a full-on thunderstorm. But that’s how it goes. Some call being a mom a thankless job, I beg to differ. Appreciation may not come in traditional ways or when you need it most, but if you count up all the little things there is nothing like being a MOM.
