Former Razorback and current NBA Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis hosted his annual Back to School backpack giveaway on Sunday, July 24, at Main Event in Little Rock. It was announced across his social media platforms, and the community was encouraged to sign up and participate. The event sold out within days, and over 300 people registered.
In addition to the backpack giveaway, the community was also able to enjoy food, bowling, laser tag, and arcade games. 200 backpacks were distributed, each including composition notebooks, writing supplies, scissors, and folders.
This year’s community event was slightly different from his normal Bobby Portis Foundation weekend. In an Instagram post, Portis explained: “Due to scheduling conflicts and my commitment to Team USA Basketball this summer, we will not have our typical Foundation Weekend, but it’s important to me and the rest of our team to still give back to the city I love that has given me so much to me. Our normal Foundation Weekend will return next summer!”
